What’s On: The romantic musical/comedy Waitress comes to Milton Keynes Theatre

Waitress comes to Milton Keynes as part of a delayed national tour after a run in the West End and is a story about Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of some happiness in her life.

But her life gets complicated when a hot new doctor arrives in town.

Supported by her workmates, Becky and Dawn, Jenna overcomes her challenges and finds that laughter, love and friendship can provide the perfect recipe for happiness.

The musical features a score by the Grammy award-winning Sara Bareilles (Love Song, Brave) a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland). The show is based on the 2007 movie written by Adrienne Shelly.

Waitress will star Lucie Jones as ‘Jenna’, Sandra Marvin as ‘Becky’, Evelyn Hoskins as ‘Dawn’ and Busted’s Matt Willis as ‘Dr Pomatter’.

The stage show first opened on Broadway in April 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where it ran until 5 January 2020. Waitress celebrated its official opening night at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End on 7 March 2019.

The North American tour of Waitress is currently on hold due to COVID-19. Waitress is currently on tour in Japan (Japanese language production), and is set to open in Australia and Holland.
